Mary Trant Breaks Par

What fabulous weather for golf and what a terrific turnout we had for the ladies GOY stroke medal.  Mary Trant returned a fabulous nett 70 with steady golf and won Section A. Mary also felt the snip of the handicap secretary’s shears and now plays off 14! Nuala Browne claimed Section B with 80 nett and Marion Foy won Section C with 79 nett. Catherine Farrell also deserves a mention for her nett 71 winning nothing and losing a shot! Now off 15. Well done ladies

Lipton’s Open

The Lipton’s Open Weekend was a huge success attracting over 120 players in the 3 day weekend stableford repeater and we would like to thank Tony and Michelle Morgan of Lipton’s Clones for their generous sponsorship. Thanks also to their son Keiran who did a splendid job of representing the business at the presentation evening. Not only did we have superb scores from the players but we even had the drama of a hole in one at the second by Joe Smith! A special presentation was made to Joe on the night, fabulous! The winner of the men’s competition with a massive 42 points was Tom McQuillan just beating Fergal Connolly into 2nd on a countback also with 42 points. Gerry O’Reilly Snr. was 3rd with 40 points and Niall Murphy (Redhills) claimed the gross with 31. The winner of the ladies prize was Mary Trant with 37 points, Joy “good round the greens” Cassidy was 2nd with 32 points and Doli Maguire was 3rd with 29 points. Mary Trant also had the best gross with 22. The visitors’ prize went to Alan Richardson of the Slieve Russell with 36 points and it was nice to hear such superb compliments from Alan about the course.

It seems strange talking about the Winter League in these tropical conditions however the presentation of prizes took place last week and whilst everyone is aware of the prize winners we must mention again Team 13 who had the winning team’s scores of Paddy McKeown 39, Paul Fitzpatrick 33, Mac Sammon 43, Kenny Farrelly 38 and Austin Curran 40 to collectively produce a stunning score of 160 points from the best 4! Well done lads especially when you remember this was over 14 holes! The individual stars with the best weekly scores over the 8 weeks were Killian Brady 38, Martin Clegg 39, Austin Curran 40, Liam Keane 40, Kenny Farrelly 39, Tony Greenan 42!!!, Terry Lennon 36 and Pearse West 37. Once again thanks to the sponsor Harte Peat and a big thank you to Tommy O’Harte for presenting the beautiful prizes which ranged from wet suits to golf shoes.
