The scores in last week’s GOY stroke were not particularly extraordinary and the course was the winner this time. However the best of the bunch with a nett 77 winning Section A was Lynn Whelan (18), Section B was claimed by a rather surprised Teresa Fitzpatrick (34) with a nett 78. Well done ladies.

Unfortunately as we go to press we do not have the full results for Open Week but would like to thank Pat Connolly Competition Secretary for his diligent organisation of same and to also thank our sponsors Erne Crystal, Feldhues, Creighton Hotel, Leo Rooney & Co. The John Donohoe, Ciaran Smith Rossmore and Conagra without whom it would have not been possible. Full results next week. Thank you also to everyone who took part. We do however have the results for the ladies and gents single stableford competition sponsored by Leo Rooney & Co. and congratulations go to Captain Mr. Sean Bonner winner of the 1st prize with a massive 40 points well done! Visitor Barry Crudden from Headfort won 2nd prize with 36 points. The ladies prize winner was Kathleen Leonard with 33 points. Kathleen played in the evening in persistent rain and whilst delighted with her steady 2 points at most holes said that the winner would probably come from earlier in the day when the conditions were more favourable. You just never know! Brid Finlay claimed 2nd place with 29 points on a countback.

Last Sunday saw Clones host 110 players from all over Ulster for the qualifier of the All Ireland Mixed Foursomes. The weather couldn’t have been better with warm sunshine even for the early starters. The course was in magnificent condition and a huge thank you for Hugh John and Finbar for their efforts especially for cutting the greens at 5am!! Aidan Fitzpatrick and his staff did a great job keeping the players satiated with breakfasts then meals as they finished. Thanks also to Mary Logue, Michael Connolly and all the volunteer bar staff. We were honoured to have Captain Sean Bonner, Lady Captain Veronica McGorman and President Martin Taylor in attendance. Thanks also to Mary O’Reilly for the beautiful flowers. The qualifiers were Castleblayney 288, Rossmore 289.5, Cavan 298 and Mannan Castle 290. Hard luck Clones who were sitting in 3rd position until right up to the end with 302 and finished 5th. A great day very well run by Richard Dylan from the GUI.
