Captain Gerry Kelly and Lady Captain Roisin Kerr will be performing the drive in ritual this Saturday at 5pm to officially mark the start of their tenure in this most exciting Centenary Year for Clones Golf Club. To honour the Captain the men will play in a 4 ball better ball repeater from Monday 25th January until Saturday 2nd March. The ladies will honour Lady Captain Rosin Kerr by playing in an 11 hole stableford repeater also until Saturday (competitions run concurrently with existing leagues). There will be refreshments and music after the drive in, so please come along and support the most knee knocking duty these two new Captains will have to perform all year!
The Men’s Spring League has commenced with some fantastic scores being recorded,Winner of Week 1 was Collie Creighten who has set the bar very high with a great score of 41 pts, Congratulations Collie. Players are reminded to please enter week number and team number on your envelope with your competition fees and also on your score card. Thanks for your co-operation.
Week 3 and Team 4 remain on top with 184 with the usual fab scores from Joy Cassidy 21, Geraldine Fitzpatrick 19 and Teresa Hanawin 21. Team 2 are in 2nd spot on 178 a fabulous 25 from Mary Trant ( 6 pars in 11 holes!), Ann Keating 18 and Mary O’Toole 16. Team 3 in third on 166 scores from Brid Finlay 20, Noirin McKenna 22 and Teresa Fitzpatrick 17. Team 1 in 4th with 163 with very consistent scores from Celesta McKiernan 19, Veronica McGorman 22 and Una O’Reilly 21. Team 5 still 5th with scores from Lynn Whelan 16, Kathleen Leonard 14 and Anne McCarthy 14. Half way through but it could all change!
The letters drawn on 18th February were HDRM and there were no winners of the 3,200 jackpot now standing at 3,300. The 5 lucky dippers each winning 20 were Myles Eardley Smithboro, Caroline Baxter Frank’s Bar, Kitty Cassidy Clones, Judith Dignam Cootehill and Tony Fitzpatrick Ture. Well done to them!
The annual subscription for a novice is €340 for the first year and €500 for the second year. In the third and subsequent years they will be expected to pay the full subscription of €700. All of those fees include insurance and Golf Union levies and apply to both Ladies and Gentlemen. It is important to emphasise that those offers apply only to those people who have never played golf and does not apply to new members coming from other clubs. There is also an incentive for lapsed golfers who have not played for three years or more who may rejoin the club for a subscription of €500 for the first year back.
The next Ladies Committee meeting is on Tuesday 26th February at 8.00 pm so if you have anything you would like to add to the agenda please let Madam Secretary know Eileen Kerr.
The ladies were out in force last week to make amends for the week 1 scores however team 4 have maintained their lead at 123 points with scores from Catherine Farrell 21, Joy Cassidy 20 and Geraldine Fitzpatrick 21. Team 2 are 2nd with 119 Mary Trant 23, Ann Keating 21 and Mary O’Toole 19. Team 3 are 3rd with 107 Brid Finlay 21, Noeleen McCague 18 and Teresa Fitzpatrick 19. Team 1 had the best collective score of the week with 63 giving them a total of 101 with Lady Captain Roisin 18, Eileen Kerr 20 and Veronica McGorman with a humdinger of 25 points. Definitely a candidate for the handicap scissors this season! Team 5 had a much better week with scores from Lynn Whelan 21, Anne McCarthy 18 and Helen Connolly 21. Week 3 now underway and with dry days forecast for the foreseeable future the scores should be fantastic!
