On Friday night last we celebrated our Centenary Gala Ball in the Kilmore Hotel, it was a most successful and enjoyable night, a big thank you to our generous Sponsors, Clones Credit Union, Feldhues Group, and others, to all associated with the organising of the event, to all who contributed to the provision of advertisements to our booklet, to those who made Donations to the club, to those who purchased tickets for the event and to all of you who travelled on the night and participated to make it a momentous occasion and a very lucrative one for the club. A big thank you also to Ross and Kate Mealiff and the staff of the Kilmore Hotel.
What an atmosphere greeted the 40 players who took part in the inaugural His and Hers mixed stroke play competition of Saturday. Many congratulations to Veronica McGorman and Pat Ryan for organising
this competition which will hopefully run throughout the coming years. Many thanks to our sponsor Mr Jimmy Scanlon of Elegant Gems Cavan (good friend of Pat Ryan’s) whose generosity made this competition possible. There was great anticipation as the pairings were drawn on the day with oooh’s and aaaah’s as the possible winning combinations were drawn. The pairings were sent along with their playing opposites to 4 different tees for a shotgun start. The winners on the day were Pat Ryan and Noirin McKenna much to everyone’s delight. Pat offered himself as Noirin’s toy boy but when she saw he was riding in a buggy she doubted his youthful looks! The couple had a great start with a fine birdie holed out by Noirin on the 3rd hole and their steady golf was enough to see them through. The runners up were Irene Rooney and George Hamilton and
in third place was Willie Lithgo and Kathleen Leonard. Everyone was treated to a great buffet lunch on their return to the clubhouse and all agreed it was a great success and a good day’s craic.
The Ladies Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday 24th of November at 3.00pm sharp. Please get any proposals in writing to Madam Secretary Eileen Kerr at least 2 weeks before so that they can be included on the Agenda.
A great turn out on Sunday last for the first day of the Winter League despite the somewhat inclement weather. Some good scores in already so ladies please play at least once this week to ensure your team is up
Congratulations to Paddy McKeown for winning the Senior Open (over 50’s) at the Slieve Russell last Tuesday. Paddy would like to thank his playing partners for donating some of their Pension money! Well done Paddy!
A lovely evening on Friday last when the Lady Captain hosted her final presentation evening before handing over to her successor Brid Finlay at the AGM on Sunday 24th of November. Roisin Kerr thanked her committee and the ladies club for making her year such an enjoyable
experience. The Centenary Golfer of the Year was Elaine Hamilton who has worked tirelessly on her golf in 2013 reducing her handicap on her journey to a credible 14. Well done Elaine! The winner of the Rose Bowl was Rosita McCabe. The Barry McGuigan Cup went to Anne McCarthy and the Junior Cup was won by Kathleen Leonard. The Birdie Tree and Silver Medal were won by Lady Captain Roisin Kerr and the Bronze Medal and Silver Spoon went to Eileen Kerr. Noeleen McCague claimed the par pyramid. Supper supplied by the ladies followed the presentation and a good night was had by all.
