The annual general meetings of the ladies and men’s club took place
on Sunday last and our new Captains are Brid Finlay and Paul Jenkins and everyone in Clones Golf Club wishes them the best of luck and a happy tenure in our forthcoming year. See pictures on Clones Golf Club Facebook page.
Once again a very smoothly run AGM with last year’s events précised
by Secretary Eileen Kerr. Very detailed reports were heard from Secretary Eileen and Treasurer Doli Maguire. The outgoing Lady Captain Roisin Kerr thanked her committee and her right hand woman Anne McCarthy for reining her in if a boo boo was about to ensue! Roisin confirmed that she had reservations at first about filling the role but had enjoyed her tenure and everyone agreed that she has been a fabulous ambassador for the club in our Centenary year. She also managed
to drop from a handicap of 18 to 12! She invited the new Lady Captain Brid Finlay to accept the badge of office and in turn Brid introduced her vice-captain who is someone that will work hard and play hard, a very popular choice in Rosita McCabe. The committee was duly elected Secretary Eileen Kerr, Treasurer Teresa Hannawin, Handicap Secretary Mary Trant, Competition Secretary Mary O’Toole (with assistance from Noeleen McCague ), PRO Mary Trant and the committee members elected were Bridie Keenan, Doli Maguire, Martha O’Grady, Noeleen McCague, Veronica McGorman and Anne McCarthy. Lady Captain Brid thanked Vera Tighe for all her hard work as Competition Secretary for the previous 4 years and Doli Maguire for her 3 years as Treasurer. The meeting was efficiently brought to a close and Lady Captain said she looked forward to her year ahead and working with her new committee. Lady Captain Brid Finlay and the ladies club would like to wish the new Captain Paul Jenkins and very successful year ahead.
The next His and Hers Society competition run by Veronica McGorman
and Pat Ryan will take place on Saturday 4th January 2014. It will
give you a chance to walk off the Christmas pud! Ladies please put your names down as soon as possible as the number of ladies playing determines how many gents we need! One for everyone in the audience!
We only have 2 weeks left and Team 5 have stretched their lead to
15 now on 254 with 16 points from each of Elaine Hamilton, Mary O’Toole and Veronica McGorman. In joint 2nd are Team 2 and Team 4 both on 239
with scores from Mary Trant 15, Joy Cassidy 13 and Noeleen McCague 17 and Vera Tighe 14, Doli Maguire 15 and Geraldine Fitzpatrick 16 respectively. Team 3 are 4th on 222 scores from Una O’Reilly 15, Anne McCarthy 14 and Celeste McKiernan 16 and finally Team 1 on 220 with Catherine Farrell 17, Kathleen Leonard 12 and Martha O’Grady 14. So we are still jockeying for position although the winners may start preparing their acceptance speech! Presentation of Prizes will be on Thursday 12th of December.
The letters drawn on 18th November were CJFG no winner of the 7,100 jackpot. The 5 lucky dippers each winning 20 were Mags & Des McMahon Clones, Mary McGrory Donagh, Anthony Waters Maguiresbridge, Eamon Campion ABP and Seamus Keenan Ratoath.
The Annual General meetings for the ladies club and the men’s club are to be held this coming Sunday November 24th, where the new Captain (Paul Jenkins) and Lady Captain (Brid Finlay) will take up office with their new committees and vice captains. The ladies meeting will commence at 3.00pm in the clubhouse and the men’s meeting will commence at 6.00pm. Please make every effort to attend it’s your club and your opinions count.
After 4 weeks of the Winter League the winners are at this stage indisputable with Team 5 on 206 points. Scores this week came from Mary O’Toole 16, a fabulous 19 from Elaine Hamilton and a fandabbydoozey 21 points from Noirin McKenna! 2 teams share 2nd place on 194 Team 4 with scores from Vera Tighe 14, Doli Maguire 18 and fabulous 19 from Geraldine Fitzpatrick. Team 2 had scores from Joy Cassidy 17, Ann Wrafter 15 and 19 from Mary Trant. In joint 3rd are Teams 1 and 3 on 177. Team 1 had scores from Ann Keating 15,
Catherine Farrell 16 and Martha O’Grady 17. Team 3 scores came from Rosita McCabe 13, Una O’Reilly 15 and Celeste McKiernan 13. There are still 3 weeks left so let’s see if we can topple Team 5 off their pedestal! As the AGM is this Sunday (24th) the time slot has been reserved for the Sunday players from 1.00pm so please be in the clubhouse by 12.45pm.

The incoming Captain Paul Jenkins who has kept us in suspense regarding the identity of his Vice Captain will be introducing him at the meeting, we await in eager anticipation.
