The annual Clones Golf Club Classic starts on Friday 29th of May and concludes on Sunday 31st of May. Teams are €200 and there are, as always, fabulous prizes to be won! We would like to thank in advance our many generous sponsors who make this event possible. This is a fund raiser for Clones Golf Club and the funds raised are invested in the enhancement and improvement of the course and facilities, which benefits everyone who uses our course for their own fund raising classic and society outings. We would ask that members buy and sell raffle tickets, enter a team, sponsorship a tee box etc. Anyone wishing to enter a team please ring 0868533600 or the clubhouse on 047 56017. A huge thank you to the organising committee for their dedication and hard work in making this event possible.

Paddy O’Flaherty’s daughters Grainne and Deirdre did him proud in organising his surprise 90th birthday celebrations at the clubhouse last Friday evening. There was a competition run in his honour the previous week and beautiful engraved glassware was presented to the winners Veronica McGorman 35 points c/b and Roisin Kerr. The gent’s prizes went to Gerard O’Callaghan 44 and Gareth Beattie 43. The funds raised from the Pa Fla competition will be donated to the 3 T’s charity, Turning The Tide against suicide. Each prize winner had their own special story of how Pa Fla had helped them improve their game with his advice and tips which usually involved a 7 iron! Pa Fla’s extended family were in attendance to witness the respect and admiration for Pa. One of his protégées Doli Maguire recited a great verse which started “when we first met, way back when, you were 50 and I was 10!” to great amusement of the gathered well-wishers. To recognise the contribution and dedication to the game, Clones Golf Club have renamed The Scratch Cup in Pa Fla’s honour and it will be known now as the Paddy O’Flaherty Cup. Captain Gerry Traynor and Lady Captain Rosita McCabe along with Club Secretary Paddy McKeown all voiced their own admiration at Pa Fla’s achievements over the years and wished him a very happy 90th Birthday.
