A huge congratulations to Roisin Kerr who, despite missing 3 weeks of the Golfer of the Year qualifiers not only played exceptional golf all year, managed to win the Lady Captain’s prize, reduce her handicap to 11 and claim the coveted Golfer of the Year for 2015 in the very last qualifying competition of the season! A very gifted golfer.
The following are the Winners of last Weekends Stableford Competition,
1st Niall Murphy (43pts)
2nd Dara Igoe (42pts)
3rd Diarmuid King (41pts)
Gerry Traynor Captain’s Prize to the Ladies was played last week and the winner claiming 10 of those valuable GOY points with a nett 73 was Veronica McGorman in 2nd place was Ann McCarthy with 74 nett and Roisin Kerr (there’s that lady again!) claimed the Gross with 86. Well done to Roberta Hamilton and Kathleen Leonard who have made it to the final of the Junior Cup. Irene Rooney beat Mary Trant in the semi-final of the Rose Bowl and awaits her opposition with interest. Good luck to all the ladies still battling the matchplays out in the Barry McGuigan and the Rose Bowl.
Week 17 of the Maureen Lynch 9 holer was won by (yes you’ve guessed it!) Roisin Kerr with 19 points and the seniors’ prize went to Kathleen “my putter’s hot” Leonard with 20 points.
The jackpot of 5,900 was won by Sadie Larkin of Shercock who picked the initial letters of her loved ones and they were ABDK. Congratulations Sadie!! The 5 lucky dippers each winning 20 were George Rice’s 4 ball Lisnaskea, Bernard Gilsenan Ballyhaise, M. O’Loughlin Navan, Lorraine Coyle Ballybay and V. Reilly Clones. Well done to them. The jackpot now stands at 2,000.00 still worth a go at one euro of one pound a go or six tickets for a fiver. If you play in sterling you win sterling!
Last Saturday President Frankie Dolan hosted his President’s Day and thankfully the weather was kind. The course was set up to produce some scintillating scores but no one expected such a fantastic score of nett 59 !! A fabulous round played early in the day by Gerard O’Callaghan (13) started off ordinarily enough in fact he carded 6 bogies in the round BUT he also carded 4 fabulous birdies two of which were on the 17th and 18th. A great result for Gerard who now plays off a much reduced handicap of 10! He was delighted to accept the beautiful golf trolley and bag and reiterated the previously spoken tributes to President Frankie, an integral part of Clones Golf Club. As Gerard won by a clear 6 shots the winner of the men’s section must have thought he had a chance with a wonder nett 65, well done Gary McGlone. 2nd was Niall Murphy Redhills 66 and Terry Lennon was third also 66 nett The gross was won by Packie McCarville with a 2 over 72! The visitors’ prize went to Micky Lavery with 38 stableford points. The ladies first prize went to a very popular winner who also played early in the morning Anne McCarthy nett 70, 2nd was Irene Rooney 71 and Kathleen Leonard was third also with 71 nett. Kathleen’s two granddaughters were so proud to see granny collect her prize! The gross went to Elaine Hamilton 90. Everyone made comment of the condition of the course and Hugh John, Finbar and the volunteers should pat themselves on the back. 128 players took to the course, testament to the esteem in which Frankie is held! A fabulous day, beautiful prizes and a great evening for chat and yarns sealed the day.
Captain Mr Gerry Traynor hosts his Captain’s Day on Saturday 5th of September and to be included in the draw for playing partners gentlemen you are required to put your name on the sheet in the men’s locker room as soon as possible with your preference on time slot. Draw Friday 28th August
The last Golfer of the Year stroke Medal DRAW is on Thursday 20th of August and it is also the very prestigious Captain’s Prize to the Ladies in honour of Gerry Traynor. The Golfer of the Year competition is now nip and tuck between 4 ladies (soo exciting!)
