The Hamilton siblings Roberta and Alex did themselves proud and both qualified for the Rory McIlroy held Monday 11th April at Rockmount GC. Rockmount Golf Club played host to the first qualifying event for this year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Club Challenge. More than 160 golf clubs across Ireland competed with the chance to play alongside international golf superstars and world famous celebrities in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open Pro–Am at stake. Forty teams competed at Rockmount on Monday, April 11, with just five going on to a place in the finals. The theme for this year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, hosted by the Rory Foundation at The K Club (May 19-22) is ‘History in the Making’ and that will certainly be the case on May 18 when, for the first time ever, one lucky club team lines up to play alongside a top golfer in the prestigious Pro-Am competition. The ladies competition was played on Sunday and Thursday and Roberta played Sunday in stair rod rain and showed no fear carding an astonishing 6 pars 1 birdie, 1 errant double bogie and rest just one overs which resulted in an eye watering 49 points yes that’s right forty nine points! Not to be outdone Alex also played on the Sunday in the men’s competition and had a one under round and carded a fabulous 45 points. A formidable couple, can’t wait to hear how they got on at Rockmount! Enjoy the experience ! The Section A winner for the ladies was Brid Finlay with 36 points. Brid played particularly well but her prowess paled into insignificance beside Roberta’s performance. The stair rod rain obviously suited them both as results came from Sunday’s play and these ladies played in the same 3 ball!
