The Clones Golf Club Annual Classic attracted over 70 teams for the 3 day extravaganza of golf due in no small part to the sterling efforts of Sammy Mealiff and his Classic Committee. The course was in pristine shape thanks to Paddy McKeown, Hugh John and Finbar (who were working on the course at 4am!) and of course the volunteers. The main sponsors of the event ABP and Clones Credit Union Limited are invaluable and our other sponsors were B M Transport, Feldhues GmbH, Upstairs Downstairs, Flack’s, Hickey’s Pharmacy and Super Valu Clones. Thank you to all who sponsored teams, tees and greens. The prize winners were: 1st with 103 c/b Stephen McDonald, Brian Bogue, Waylon McEniff and Darren Graham. 2nd with 103 Stephen McDonald, Waylon McEniff, Darren Graham and Pat Ryan, 3rd with 98 Shane McNaughton, Benny Igoe, Bernard McAniney and Brian McGorman. 4th with 98 Lady Captain Collette McCahery, Denis Doogan, Packie McCahery and Paul McDermott the non-GUI team prize went to Liam Curran’s Team. The other notable on Saturday was Anne McCarthy holing her 2nd shot on the par 4 first! Some start! The nearest the pin winners were Pat McCabe, Packie McCarville and Ivan Fitzpatrick. Needless to say this was a massive undertaking by the Classic Committee with many hours invested in making it such a success. Thanks also to Sammy and his team are already planning next year’s event! Thank you to everyone involved no matter how small the part you played, we did it together!
