46 members attended the Management club AGM last Sunday and were welcomed by President Anne McCarthy who thanked the outgoing Captains Paddy McKeown and Geraldine Fitzpatrick for being great ambassadors for the club. Anne then thanked the volunteers, the lotto crew, the Classic team, Mary Logue and especially Hugh John and Finbar, our incredible greenkeepers who do a stalwart job. Anne also thanked anyone who had made a difference to Clones Golf Club in 2016. Treasurer Donal O’Reilly made his report and opened the floor to questions and it was clear from the figures that we need to step up the fundraising and also membership numbers. There are moves afoot to concentrate on these aspects of the club immediately and to schedule a progress meeting for everyone to attend in early 2017. Donal thanked Kathleen Leonard for her work in assisting him. P J McCague, Secretary then reiterated the year and gave a breakdown of member figures he too thanked everyone who had made a difference to the club and especially Paddy McKeown for his support in the demanding role of club Secretary. The Motions put forward were discussed and adopted save the final Motion which was overturned. The election of officers followed and President Anne McCarthy continues into her second year, Secretary P J McCague, Treasurer Gerard Kelly and Tom Cassidy, Captain Joe Smith, Lady Captain Teresa Hanawin, vice-captain Pat McCabe along with Kathleen Leonard, Gerry Treanor, Paddy McKeown, Maureen Lynch, Hugo Maguire, Martin Taylor and Gerry Brady. It was pointed out that another lady member was required and this will be addressed later to co-opt someone. The meeting was brought to close and season’s greetings offered to all members and their families.
The Ladies Club will hold their party night in the clubhouse on Thursday 8th of December at 9pm with catering supplied and the much anticipated presentation of the Winter League Hampers along with a prize for everyone who played in the league. All ladies come along and enjoy the fun.
The ladies will be putting up the Christmas tree and all the usual spectacular decorations on Tuesday 6th December at 7.30pm
The new Lady Captain Teresa Hanawin and all of the ladies club wish Captain Joe Smith a happy and successful year.
The ladies Annual General Meeting held last Sunday week produced the usual comprehensive review of the tenure of the outgoing Lady Captain Geraldine Fitzpatrick by Madam Secretary Catherine Farrell followed by her Secretary’s report and the report from the Treasurer Bridie Keenan. Geraldine thanked her committee for their support and hard work and made particularly mention of the support received following her accidents. The outgoing Lady Captain thanked all the sponsors for their generous donations throughout the year. The transfer of office was made to the incoming Lady Captain Teresa Hanawin who was unable to introduce her Vice-Captain, as yet the position is vacant. The committee were duly elected and are: ex officio Geraldine Fitzpatrick, Secretary Catherine Farrell, Treasurer Bridie Keenan, Competition Secretary Ann McCarthy, Handicap Secretary Roberta Hamilton & PRO Mary Trant and the elected members are Brid Finlay, Joy Cassidy, Kathleen McCabe-Gibbons, Paula Jenkins and Rosita McCabe. There were several other topics of discussion which resulted in lively debate. It was agreed that if a lady arrives for a draw and no other lady appears, then the card may be marked by another member as long as it’s not a family member. The meeting was brought to a close by Lady Captain Teresa and everyone wishes her well in her coming year.
