Drive In Saturday March 3rd

Captain Sean Bonner and Lady Captain Veronica McGorman will be ceremoniously welcomed into office on Saturday 3rd March at 4.30 pm when they both “drive in” to mark the occasion.  There will be music and supper afterwards and Tommy O’Harte (last year’s Captain) would like to take the opportunity of presenting the matchplay cups for 2011.

President’s Piece

President Martin Taylor witnessed and unlikely par last Wednesday while playing in a friendly fourball. Nat Doonan played his usual fine drive across the corner of the lake at “Splash” (par 4, 6th) only for his ball to land in the sand spreader being driven by Finbar! Unaware of his extra cargo, Finbar continued on his merry way and disgorged the ball with the sand about 40 metres from the green. After an excellent chip, Nat failed to sink the putt and finished with a rather unusual par. An interesting debate on the relevant rules ensued!

Men’s Winter League

The men’s winter league continues over the 14 holes and the first week’s winner will be announced next week. The rules are in the locker room and don’t worry if you have a bad week as the worst 2 weeks team scores will be dropped at the end!

Ladies League Underway

Spring is definitely in the air and the ladies took to the fairways in large numbers on day one of the league with more than half the combatants already posting a score for the team in this ever popular 9 hole stableford repeater. It’s just €3 to play and you can play as often as your legs will allow but only one score from each participant each week. 3 cards from each team to count each week. Also there is an eclectic card for pars and birdies. Team 1 is Mary O’Toole (c), Anne McCarthy, Mary Trant, Helen Connolly and Celseta McKiernan . Team 2 Roisin Kerr (c), Ann Keating, Brid Finlay (who incidentally had a blinding start to the league so watch out!), Doli Maguire and Geraldine Igoe. Team 3 Teresa Fitzpatrick (c) Elaine Hamilton, Noeleen McCague, Kathleen Leonard and Maureen Lynch (a whole team of past Lady Captains!) Team 4 Teresa Hanawin (c), Lynn Whelan, Joy Cassidy, Marion Foy, Eileen Kerr and Bridie Keenan and Team 5 Lady Captain Veronica (c) Vera Tighe, Rosita McCabe, Geraldine Fitzpatrick, Noirin McKenna and Mary O’Reilly. So ladies get your team strategy sorted and may the best team win!

Alpha Bet

The letters drawn in the Alpha Bet on Monday 30th of January were PUCX and there were no winners of the 2,500 jackpot which now rolls over to 2,600. The 5 lucky dippers each winning 20 were Chris McCormack Lisnaskea, Tom McGeany Lisnaskea, Brian Curran Jnr. Clones, Maurice Murphy Raheny (yes our ticket sellers certainly get about!) and Joanne Rehill Clones, well done to them! Tickets on sale wherever you see the Alpha Bet posters or from one of our far travelled ticket sellers! Just one euro or one pound each of 6 tickets for a fiver. Win in corresponding currency.  Draw every Monday night in the clubhouse.

Ladies Spring League

The list is now in the locker room for any lady wishing to play in this year’s Spring League to put their name up. The teams will be drawn as usual and the league starts on Sunday 5th of February and will conclude on Saturday 17th March. It will cost a mere €3.00 to play each time and you can play as often as you like in this stableford 9 hole league.
