Mary Peters’ Trust
The ladies play this Thursday 10th of May in the coveted Mary Peters Trust 18 hole stableford and the winner will accompany Lady Captain to Massereene later in the year for the finals and a chance to meet the great lady herself. Don’t worry ladies the Sunday players didn’t enter so it’s all to play for!
LC Breaks 70!
The ladies competed in their first Golfer of the Year stroke medal on Sunday 30th April and Thursday 3rd of May. It’s fair to say that the Sunday ladies were mad to even consider going out, but they did! The hurricane force winds put paid to 3 of the ladies by the 7th but a couple of hardy ones bravely carried on but to no avail scoring wise. Thursday however was warm and calm and perfect and Lady Captain Veronica McGorman made full use of it and managed a nett 69 to win Section C loosing 2 shots into the bargain! Joy Cassidy with her prowess around the greens claimed Section A with 71 nett and also lost a shot. Well done Joy. And purple patch Noeleen McCague claimed Section B with a nett 73. A good start for these ladies in the bid for this year’s Golfer of the Year.
May Weekend Results
Thankfully we had lovely weather for the May Open weekend which ran from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th of May and was generously sponsored by McGorman Windows Smithboro. The course was set up to be testing but fair and gave up a fabulous winning score for John McDaid of 45 points! Well done John! Niall Murphy Redhills claimed 2nd place with 40 points just beating Gerry Brady into 3rd on a countback also 40 points. Kathleen “my putter’s hot” Leonard won the ladies first prize with a fabulous 39 points. Kathleen admitted that she was so relaxed she didn’t realise she was going so well! Second place was claimed by Noeleen McCague who is in a bit of a purple patch just now, with 36 points and Lynn Whelan claimed 3rd spot with 32 points.
