Connolly Conquers on Captain’s Day

There were major worries about the weather last Saturday for Sean Bonner’s Captain’s Prize however they were largely unfounded and his years with Met Eireann were rewarded with a dry day! There was a great turn out to honour Sean and there was much praise for the green keepers Finbar and Hugh John as despite the deluge of rain in the previous days, the course was in tip top condition. The winner of the coveted Captain’s Prize with a magnificent 60 nett was Fergal Connolly (13). Fergal was delighted to accept the I-Pad 3 and thanked his father Pat (competition Secretary) for all the tuition over the past years. He hoped that one day his father might too win a Captain’s Prize! In 2nd place Barry Duffy Nett 63 and 3rd Tom McQuillan 64. The Gross went to Donal O’Reilly 72 and as Donal said if you can’t play good golf on our magnificent course you may take up bowls! Front 9 Seamus Keenan 29 1/2, Back 9 Georgie Pugh 32. Longest Drive David Goulding, nearest the pin Ivan Fitzpatrick. Committee Prize Pauric Geoghegan, Past Captain Tommy O’Harte, Distance and Country Paul Clerkin 69 nett 2nd Jimmy Monaghan 70 nett. Guest Barney O’Toole 74, Seniors Stephen Trant 67. Ladies winner Lynn Whelan 71, 2nd Roisin Kerr 71 and Gross Mary Trant. Everyone complimented Sean on his magnificent prizes after the presentation of which the fun started with dancing and catching up with old friends. A great night, Sean would like to thank everyone for their texts, phone calls and gifts and all the support he received to make his Captain’s Day such a success.
