Consistency Wins Lady Captain’s Day

The most consistent golfer this season, without a doubt, has been Helen Connolly and it should have come as no surprise that she won Teresa Hanawin’s Lady Captains Day prize with a nett 71. The only person who was surprised was Helen herself! The reverse result announcement by President Anne McCarthy kept the anticipation and excitement going right to the end. It suddenly dawned on Helen that it must be her who had the winning score and she was reduced to tears! Bless! The whole day was perfect the weather, the prizes, the flowers and foosies brought by the lady members, the gathering of family and friends and Lady Captain’s witty and amusing speech in which she thanked Aidan Murray from Mullanahinch Nursing Home for sponsoring the gifts for the players. Teresa promised him some form of return in the long run! The full results are: Winner Helen Connolly (28) nett 71, runner up Roisin Kerr (10) 72, Gross Rosita McCabe 87. Section A (0-21) Vera Tighe 72, Section B (22-30) Noeleen McCague 72 and Section C (31-36) Bridie Keenan 76. The front 9 went to President Anne McCarthy 33 and the back 9 to Celeste McKiernan 36. The past Captain’s Prize Elaine Hamilton 75 and the Committee Prize Catherine Farrell 78. Fergal Connolly won the men’s 14 hole stableford repeater with 38 points having carded just one over! Well done Fergal! And Brian McGorman was second with 35 points. Lady Captain would like to thank all the men that took part in this competition. The visiting family and guest players who won prizes were Teresa O’Leary, Martina Conlon, Gerry Traynor, Fergus Grimes, Daniel O’Reilly and the novice prize went to one of our newly recruited ladies Mena Fitzpatrick! Well done to all! Some of you might remember that when Teresa was asked to be Lady Captain she famously said “oh, I wouldn’t be able to do that!” Well Teresa, everyone agrees that you can and you did, well done and thank you for such a wonderful day.
