Inter Club Competitions.

In this centenary year the “mad May” of inter club competitions is living up to its reputation where, over the past couple of weeks, the club is inundated with teams from all over Ulster turning up for matches and practise rounds in the various competitions.  At this stage it looks as if “mad May” will continue into “mad June” as most of the teams are doing quite well. The Captain, Gerard is having a very busy time but despite the commitment he is enjoying the occasion and is buoyed by the performances of the teams. Pat Ryan’s Ulster Fourball team were first out and they set the standard with a comfortable 4 – 1 at home to Mannan Castle and despite a much more difficult match away managed to secure a place in the next round against Dunmurry. For various reasons Pat King experienced some difficulty in selecting a team to travel to Mayobridge in the Junior Cowdy and did extremely well in achieving two halved matches. He was able to field a much stronger selection for the return game at home to achieve a 3 –1 victory and win the match overall by two
holes. They now play Edenmore or Tandragee in the next round.   Mayobridge may be able to avenge this defeat very shortly because if they overcome Rossmore they will face Clones in the second round of the Rossmore Cup. Clones overcame Lurgan by the narrowest of margins on Sunday when the teams finished level on four matches each but got
through on holes won. The margin was just two holes.  The Lurgan lads were understandably disappointed but went home happy after socialising with Leslie and members of his team for some time afterwards in the clubhouse. In the Cavan/Monaghan Alliance Castleblayney Golf Club were the opposition on Saturday and after a very closely fought contest the home club finished comfortable winners in the end. Of course not all games have gone our way and the Pierce Purcell team lost out to an excellent Rossmore team in the knock out stages of the competition at
the Slieve Russell last week.  Our juveniles also lost out to Killymoon in the Ronan Rafferty on Sunday. They performed very well and are looking forward to doing much better in the Norman Cinnamon Cup next month.
