Slipped between two horrendously wet days, Saturday dawned beautifully dry and mild for Collette McCahery’s Lady Captain’s Day. The competing ladies were met on the morning by Lady Captain and enjoyed refreshments and a chat before they headed off to play golf, clutching their goody bags. Lady Captain then hosted the past lady members and welcomed her visiting Lady Captains from nearby clubs. The display of prizes was magnificent and each player coveted them. The evening’s events started with Lady Captain Collette hosting a dinner party for her family, committee and friends then to the main event the presentation of prizes. The winner admitted in her acceptance speech that she had not enjoyed playing golf for a while now but with a par, par start, her interest and excitement quickly returned and she played steady golf throughout. The winner of the Lady Captain’s Prize 2019 with a net score of 67 was Eileen Kerr. 2nd was Teresa Hanawin 70 and the gross went to Roisin Kerr 82. Section A Eileen Maguire 73, Section B Joy Cassidy 72 and Section C Kathleen Leonard 79. The back 9 went to Vera Tighe and the front 9 to Brid Finlay. The friends of the family prize went to Paul McDermott and The Lady Captain’s prize to the men went to 1st Brian Curran 37 points on a countback and 2nd Brian Morgan also with 37 points. (this was a 14 hole competition so great scores gentlemen!) We heard wonderful speeches from President Father Jerry White and Captain George Pugh. There are many people to thank for making the day so special and Collette made a fabulous speech to that effect. A great night followed with music from Beetroot and dancing into the night.
