Bridie Keenan has been waiting... and waiting... to have her Lady Captain's day at Clones Golf Club.
Originally planned for July of 2020, with ultra strict Covid restrictions in place from April to June, the Lady Captain herself wasn't even eligible to travel to the Club, and the decision was made to cancel for 2020. Of course, we were all delighted that Bridie decided to take another run at it, and remained our Lady Captain for 2021.
Its going to be a little bit different this year, for obvious reasons... but we're aiming to keep at least some traditions alive!
The men of the club have been invited to play in a 14 hole Stableford Repeater from Monday to Friday in an attempt to win 1 of 2 prizes up for grabs.
We have a number of new lady members who have started this year and last, who will play in a 9 hole competition in the morning, and our main group of 27 ladies will compete for the Lady Captain's prize in groups of 3 from 11am.
The tee is reserved until 2pm on the day, but will be open after that for any members who wish to stretch their legs! Don't forget, timesheet is always in operation!
We aim to hold our presentation of prizes from 6.30/7pm on the day, we hope the weather is kind to us, which will leave us with plenty of room to celebrate safely.
So we, the members, wish our Lady Captain all the best for her big day, and hope the rest of the year runs smooth too! Best of luck to all the competitors!
We live in hope!
Golfers all around the country are going stir crazy that they are still under restrictions which stop them from enjoying the game they love so much.
We golfers know that the course is probably the safest place for us, outside in the fresh air, socially distancing from our playing partners, and keeping ourselves sane.
Alas, we must adhere to the Government restrictions, but we'll be back out in force as soon as they're eased to allow it.
In the meantime, stay safe, we hope to see you soon!
