Letterkenny Golf Club who like ourselves are celebrating this their Centenary Year. A twinning arrangement has been arrived at involving both clubs whereby members of both Clubs can play each other’s course for as little as 10 Euro green fees. Members will be asked to produce Membership identity. A trip to Letterkenny Golf Club was organised last weekend by Kevin, Secretary, of the Mens Club. Led by our Captain Gerard, in the region of 30 members travelled and participated. We would like to express our thanks to Letterkenny Club Captain Henry and to Lady Captain Sandra (both natives of County Monaghan) who greeted us on arrival and for their appreciation and courtesy shown to us, as part of their Centenary Celebrations they will be paying us a return visit later in the year.
Lady Captain’s weekend away 26th to 28th of April in Glasson cost €238 for 2 nights B & B and 2 meals and 1 round of golf. Deposit of €50 was to be in by 22nd March so if you want to go get it paid now. List in locker room please put your name up now so that the rooms can be booked.
The joint club AGM was held last Sunday afternoon which started with a précis of the year’s activities and main events ably reported by the outgoing Treasurer Brian Moore, who was thanked for doing a fabulous job but sadly has to stand down due to work commitments and Secretary Paddy McKeown who captured the year perfectly making special mention of our volunteers, Mary Logue our Bar Steward and especially Finbar and Hugh John who have done a fabulous job keeping the course in tip top shape, as usual. Thanks also to the Classic and Alpha Bet committees for their wonderful fund raising for the club. Congratulations were offered to President Martin Taylor on the birth of his grandchild which accounted for his absence. The new Committee were elected and Martin Taylor was voted back in as President, Paddy McKeown as Secretary. Donal O’Reilly is our new Treasurer. The committee members are Maureen Lynch, Anne McCarthy Kathleen Leonard, Paul Fitzpatrick, George Rice, Liam Quigley, Mike Keane and Victor Chambers.
Many of you will be wondering why the Joint Club AGM hasn’t taken place yet. There will hopefully be more news in the early New Year as to when it will be.
Congratulations to Brid Finlay and Irene McConkey who gelled well to win the Granard Cup foursomes with a 6 point advantage over the field with 37 points. These ladies will travel for the national finals to Hermitage Golf Club on 23rd August.
The men’s club held their AGM on Sunday last; outgoing Captain Tommy O’Harte introduced his successor Sean Bonner who in turn introduced his Vice Captain Gerard Kelly. Kevin Hickey remains as Secretary, Pat Fee Handicap Secretary, Padraig Geoghegan Treasurer and Pat Connolly takes over as Competition Secretary. Gerry Trant PRO. Full report next week.
