Our Annual Club Classic takes on Friday 3rd June and concludes on Sunday 5th June. If you wish to Sponsor a Team €200.00 (including meal afterwards), Green €50.00, or Tee Box €100.00 you may contact Mary in the Clubhouse at (047) 56017 or any Committee Member. Buy a raffle ticket if you can. Clones Golf Club is used by many charities and sports clubs to host classics for their own fund raising so if we can continue to make the course more beautiful and keep improving it, everyone benefits. So please support our classic. Thank you.
The Joint Club Annual General Meeting took place on Sunday last and was efficiently chaired by President Frankie Dolan. Very detailed reports were heard from Secretary Paddy McKeown and Treasurer Donal O’Reilly. The members are asked to support the Alpha Bet Lotto by buying tickets and indeed selling them as well. They were also asked to support the weekly competitions as both these sources of income will offset the need for a Subscription increase. Finbar and Hugh John were once again commended on the excellent condition of the course and in particular the greens. The new incoming committee have undertaken to market the club to societies and green fee golfers as our “open all year round” gem of a course is not widely known about. The new committee will be:
Lady Captain-Rosita McCabe
Lady Vice Captain-Geraldine Fitzpatrick
The elected members are: Kathleen Leonard, Ann McCarthy, Maureen Lynch, Pat McCabe, Brid Finlay, George Rice, Joe Smith and Paul Jenkins. The members are asked to note that as Paddy McKeown will be taking on the Captain’s role in 2016, a Club Secretary will be required so if you are willing to take on this role please contact a committee member as soon as possible.
To keep you ladies swinging until the Winter League starts, there will be a 9 hole stableford “3 club” competition. €3 to play until 18th October. So choose those weapons carefully although a putter might be useful! You can only use the same 3 clubs for the nine holes. This should be interesting!
The Annual General Meeting of the Joint Club takes place this Sunday 8th Dec at 5pm. You are asked to please attend so that you may have a say in the running of the Club for the coming year. Remember the men’s club proposed in 2011 that future AGMs be notified by the web site, newspapers and notices in the clubhouse so please make sure everyone is aware of the meeting as no individual letters are being despatched.
Letterkenny Golf Club who like ourselves are celebrating this their Centenary Year. A twinning arrangement has been arrived at involving both clubs whereby members of both Clubs can play each other’s course for as little as 10 Euro green fees. Members will be asked to produce Membership identity. A trip to Letterkenny Golf Club was organised last weekend by Kevin, Secretary, of the Mens Club. Led by our Captain Gerard, in the region of 30 members travelled and participated. We would like to express our thanks to Letterkenny Club Captain Henry and to Lady Captain Sandra (both natives of County Monaghan) who greeted us on arrival and for their appreciation and courtesy shown to us, as part of their Centenary Celebrations they will be paying us a return visit later in the year.
Lady Captain’s weekend away 26th to 28th of April in Glasson cost €238 for 2 nights B & B and 2 meals and 1 round of golf. Deposit of €50 was to be in by 22nd March so if you want to go get it paid now. List in locker room please put your name up now so that the rooms can be booked.
The joint club AGM was held last Sunday afternoon which started with a précis of the year’s activities and main events ably reported by the outgoing Treasurer Brian Moore, who was thanked for doing a fabulous job but sadly has to stand down due to work commitments and Secretary Paddy McKeown who captured the year perfectly making special mention of our volunteers, Mary Logue our Bar Steward and especially Finbar and Hugh John who have done a fabulous job keeping the course in tip top shape, as usual. Thanks also to the Classic and Alpha Bet committees for their wonderful fund raising for the club. Congratulations were offered to President Martin Taylor on the birth of his grandchild which accounted for his absence. The new Committee were elected and Martin Taylor was voted back in as President, Paddy McKeown as Secretary. Donal O’Reilly is our new Treasurer. The committee members are Maureen Lynch, Anne McCarthy Kathleen Leonard, Paul Fitzpatrick, George Rice, Liam Quigley, Mike Keane and Victor Chambers.
Many of you will be wondering why the Joint Club AGM hasn’t taken place yet. There will hopefully be more news in the early New Year as to when it will be.
Congratulations to Brid Finlay and Irene McConkey who gelled well to win the Granard Cup foursomes with a 6 point advantage over the field with 37 points. These ladies will travel for the national finals to Hermitage Golf Club on 23rd August.
