Nett 59 claims President Frankie’s Prize

Last Saturday President Frankie Dolan hosted his President’s Day and thankfully the weather was kind. The course was set up to produce some scintillating scores but no one expected such a fantastic score of nett 59 !! A fabulous round played early in the day by Gerard O’Callaghan (13) started off ordinarily enough in fact he carded 6 bogies in the round BUT he also carded 4 fabulous birdies two of which were on the 17th and 18th. A great result for Gerard who now plays off a much reduced handicap of 10! He was delighted to accept the beautiful golf trolley and bag and reiterated the previously spoken tributes to President Frankie, an integral part of Clones Golf Club. As Gerard won by a clear 6 shots the winner of the men’s section must have thought he had a chance with a wonder nett 65, well done Gary McGlone. 2nd was Niall Murphy Redhills 66 and Terry Lennon was third also 66 nett The gross was won by Packie McCarville with a 2 over 72! The visitors’ prize went to Micky Lavery with 38 stableford points. The ladies first prize went to a very popular winner who also played early in the morning Anne McCarthy nett 70, 2nd was Irene Rooney 71 and Kathleen Leonard was third also with 71 nett. Kathleen’s two granddaughters were so proud to see granny collect her prize! The gross went to Elaine Hamilton 90. Everyone made comment of the condition of the course and Hugh John, Finbar and the volunteers should pat themselves on the back. 128 players took to the course, testament to the esteem in which Frankie is held! A fabulous day, beautiful prizes and a great evening for chat and yarns sealed the day.
